Welcome to Mrs. Maxey Thomas' Page
Greetings! My name is Mrs. Rebecca Maxey Thomas. My students call me MM or Mrs. Maxey. This is my 17th year teaching American Sign Language (ASL) at Blaine High School and I absolutely love it! I began teaching ASL at Anoka-Ramsey Community College 18 years ago and fell in love with teaching.
Some tidbits about me:
- I'm a late-deafened adult (Deaf since the age of 19)
- I'm actively involved with the Deaf community actively serving on the board for Minnesota Association of Deaf Citizens (MADC), volunteering for conventions with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), actively planning Deaf events with Deaf Culture Salon, actively involved with American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA), and actively serving on the board for Minnesota Loon American Sign Language Teachers Association (MN Loon ASLTA)
- I'm happily married to a wonderful guy and have two Miniature Australian Shepherds - one retired and one in training to become a hearing dog
- I'm a Minnesota native
- I have a B.S. in Social Work and my M.Ed. in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Special Education, and I'm currently pursuing a second Master's degree
I'm super excited to have your child in my class and I appreciate your support. I'm looking forward to working with them in their strive to learn ASL and I cannot wait to watch them grow with this awesome language. Thank you for supporting your student's education! I am excited to work with your child and watch their growth. Together we can help your child achieve success!
