ACT testing update for Class of 2021

Due to the circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, juniors who will be seniors next school year (2020-21) will be given the opportunity to take a district-paid ACT test in October during the school day. The testing opportunity replaces this April’s testing date.

Students who would like to take an ACT test before October may do so, at their own cost, on one of the national Saturday testing dates. Students who need support with costs for this assessment can apply for a waiver through their high school.

It’s important to note that many colleges and universities may not be requiring a standardized assessment score as part of their admissions process this fall given circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. Students should contact their post-secondary institutions of interest for specific modifications to the admission requirements they may have.

Next year's juniors will be given the opportunity to take a district-paid ACT test during the school day in the spring of 2021, as has been district practice.

    ACT Information

By now you have most likely received your ACT scores from the test you took at Coon Rapids High School in April.  Some facts about ACT scores:

**Community colleges, technical colleges, and private vocational schools generally DON’T require students to take the ACT or SAT.  They, however, often require their own placement tests as part of their application.  Sometimes they can use your ACT scores in place of their placement tests.

**Four year colleges look at ACT scores as part of their admission criteria.  If you are intending to apply to a 4 year college, you will want to research the institution's requirements or standards for test scores to see if you meet the requirements with your score.  Many students who are planning to attend four year colleges will take the ACT more than once. The upcoming dates and deadlines to apply are below.

**Preparing for the ACT: Students were shown information in the Naviance system to help them study for the ACT.  The ACT Academy website is also a good source for free test prep resources and questions. ACT has a number of other free options at the bottom of this page. There are other organizations that offer test prep, but they are typically quite costly.

**To register for the ACT: If students wish to take the test again, they need to register at www.actstudent.org. Students will register to take at a specific location and will be charged a fee. The fee for the ACT without the writing component is $52 and $68 with the writing. See your counselor if you are eligible for a fee waiver. The Coon Rapids High School Code is: 240537

If you have questions about your scores or ACT planning, please seek out your school counselor.
