Welcome to our Classroom WebsiteI begin my 27th year of teaching! This is my 24th year with Anoka-Hennepin. I first started teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in Duluth, MN for 3 years then moved to A-H in 1996 teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students from birth-5, then transferred to Coon Rapids High School, continued teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. This is my 7th year teaching American Sign Language at Anoka High School. I look forward to continuing with the new things we have started in the ASL programs across the district which include chromebooks for classroom use. Integrating technology into the classroom has been a goal of mine even though it's not my area of expertise. I'm willing to learn along with students! Technology has been a big part of the ASL classroom at Anoka and I look forward to continuing to expand on the use of technology. Learn how to become comfortable in front of a camera to record videos.
I currently have 2 children, Alex who is a 3rd year Chemistry major at University of Minnesota-Duluth and Maggie who is a Senior at Cooper High School. I enjoy gardening, scrap booking and spending time with my family. I have a husband who is also Deaf. We have been married 23 years. We have a dog named Bowie. He is a Border Collie mix and assume he's around 7 years old.Thank you for supporting your student's education! I am excited to work with your child and watch their growth. Together we can help your child achieve success! Please encourage your child to keep voices off in my classroom. The more their voices are off, the better they will be at American Sign language. It is important to practice using the TARGET LANGUAGE. ASL is a visual language with it's own grammar rules. Spoken English has no place in my classroom. Thanks!UPDATE 3/23/2020 As we move on to distance learning, this is going to be a new experience for everyone including myself. We are going to take this one day at a time, one step at a time, one hour at a time. There is no pressure, no definite timeline to get everything done. We will work together to achieve the best possible outcome. Please do not feel stressed out or feel like this is additional work, communication is key. I have a different videophone number, you can call me via either number or continue to email. There will be office hours set up for each class period as needed. Feel free to contact me with questions. We will get through this together! Sign on!
