    Description of Activity


    Where to locate advisor:  LARC

    Meeting times and places:   Afterschool, Language Arts area

    Length and timing of season:  The first meeting for the team is in November.  Auditions are in December.  Practice begins in January.  Tournaments begin in February and run through April.

    Cost (if any):  $100

    Equipment required:  Desire to perform, compete and improve communication skills is needed.

    Description:  As a member of the Speech Team, students have the opportunity to compete in one of 13 events including Humorous Interpretation, Storytelling, Discussion, Creative Expression, Dramatic Interpretation, Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Great Speeches, Prose and Poetry Interpretation, Extemporaneous Reading and Dramatic Duo.  Students practice one or two hours weekly with their coach and compete in tournaments on Saturdays and some weekday afternoons and evenings.  Any student in grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 may audition for the team.  Upon earning a spot on the team a student is eligible for individual awards at all tournaments, membership in the National Forensic League and an Anoka High School Fine Arts letter as well as opportunities to build self-confidence and communication skills through participation in extracurricular speech.
