Description: One of the highest honors that a student can receive is membership in the National Honor Society.

Members are selected by a faculty committee based on scholarship (3.8 minimum cumulative g.p.a.), service, character and leadership.  Students who meet the scholarship requirement, after trimester one of sophomore or junior year, are requested to submit an application for membership describing their activities. Students will be notified via their student email account regarding eligibility and membership status. Please check your email frequently.

NHS is a service organization as well as an honorary club.  After selection, members must complete 8 hours of volunteer service work per trimester (minimum three affiliated with NHS, remainder open to other groups), plus participate in society sponsored activities.

Traditionally members would be required to complete 24 total hours of service in a school year, with 9 of those directly affiliated to NHS functions. This year the amount of service hours required to maintain membership is as follows:

    Tri 1: 4 hours
    Tri 2: 6 hours
    Tri 3: 8 hours

Total for school year: 18 hours

Hour requirements will return to 24 hours total including 9 NHS-sponsored in the 25/26 school year. Members are also expected to attend 1 meeting per trimester.

Requirements for membership and continued involvement are: active community involvement, positive character, service, leadership, and scholarship, as set forth by the national organization.

Induction ceremonies are held each spring for the elected members of the sophomore and junior class. This organization has provided scholarships and promoted student leadership in various school and community service organizations. The faculty committee will consider any violations of the Minnesota State High School League and incidents of cheating as part of the selection process, as well as other character issues noted in the school or district record.
