Welcome! I have been an EL teacher in the Anoka-Hennepin district since 2014. This year, I am teaching full-time at Anoka High School.
As an EL educator, it is my personal mission to empower my students to use academic language and strategies to maximize their full potential. I also enjoy learning about their culturally diverse backgrounds and learning new words and phrases in their languages. I am excited to work with the students and watch their growth!
Prior to joining the Anoka family, I have had several educational and professional experiences. In 2008, I earned my bachelor's degree in graphic design and biblical studies at the University of Northwestern St. Paul. Rather than getting a job in my area of study, I decided to travel to my native country—South Korea—and learn more about my heritage and my birth family. For one year, I explored Korea and taught English as a Foreign Language. Afterward, I returned to the United States and worked as a graphic designer for a few years, but realized my passion for teaching. I went back to school and received my master's degree from Hamline University.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends. I have two very active dogs that take up the majority of our time wanting to play, run, and get into trouble! We also welcomed our first child over the summer and have been enjoying our time as new parents!
