    EVALUATION

    Both your High School Grade and your SCSU grade will be based on the following:

    Tests/Quizzes                                                                    50%

    Final Test                                                                             10%

    Labwork/Coursework                                                    30%

    Participation                                                                       10%

    Grading Scale:

    A = 92-100%                 A- = 90-91.9%

    B+ = 88-89.9%              B = 82-87.9%                B- = 80-81.9%

    C+ = 78-79.9%              C = 72-77.9%                C- = 70-71.9%

    D+ = 68-69.9%              D = 62-67.9%                D- = 60-61.9%

    F = Below 60%

    • Grades will be posted online and updated approximately once each week.
    • Cheating/Plagiarism will not be tolerated and could result in a zero for that activity.
    • Cell Phone use during class could be interpreted as cheating and could result in a zero for that activity.

    Tests:  Material on the tests will cover content from class, textbook readings, and class labs/activities.  Questions could be a combination of multiple choice, short answer, matching, or essay.  Retakes will not be allowed, but your lowest test or quiz score will be dropped at the end of the Trimester.

    Labs/Projects:  Lab is a key component of this course and some will be assessed with formal lab reports.  There will be 2-3 of these assigned to your lab group each trimester.  Detailed requirements for each lab report/project will accompany each activity.  Major labs can be made up by arrangement with the instructor.

    Other Assignments: Expect to have regular homework assignments, including guided reading from the textbook, discussion questions following lab investigations, articles related to our current material, and practice problems.  Questions referring to these assignments may appear on tests.

    Participation:  These points will equal 10% of your grade.  You start out with 100/100 participation points.  Points are lost the following ways:      1.) Excused absence (-5)         2.) Unexcused (Truant) absence (-15)

         3.) Tardy (-3)                                4.) Lack of Participation (up to -5/day)

                        5.) Phone (unauthorized use, up to -5/day)

    *Participation points can be made up – see participation point ideas sheet.

    Late Policy:  Assignments are given full credit if they are turned in at the start of class on due date.  Late assignments can fall into 3 categories:                              1.) 3/4 credit– assignment turned in on due date, but after the start of class.

                                                                                   2.) 1/2 credit– assignment turned in one day late.

                                                                                   3.) 1/4 credit– assignment turned in two or more days late.

    * If you are absent, you will have one day to make up an assignment for full credit.

    * * 1 day for each day gone.    (if you miss 3 days in a row – you have 3 days from when you return)

    Accommodating Disabilities:  Any student in this course who has a documented disability that may prevent him or her from fully demonstrating his or her abilities should contact me personally as soon possible, so we can discuss accommodations necessary to ensure full participation and facilitate your educational opportunity.
