Nutrition is a Family and Consumer Sciences course that examines all areas of wellness with the goal of improving one’s overall health and well-being. There is a unique focus on moving and nourishing the body. To accomplish this we incorporate regular walks and create as well as sample healthy foods.
Learning Targets
Students will…
· Learn information about the various dimensions of wellness – however most learning will encompass physical wellness.
· Apply the information they have learned by setting a goal to enhance their personal wellness.
· Compare, contrast and analyze wellness news/information from various sources.
· Sample and prepare nutrient dense foods and recipes.
· Coordinate a group project that will improve the overall wellness of our class or school.
Course Expectations
Students will…
· Be on time and prepared for class.
· Participate in classroom discussions and activities.
· Demonstrate respect for other students, guests and teacher.
· Use a planner in order to use a pass. Passes should not exceed 10 minutes.
Materials Required
· Notebook, folder and writing utensil
· Comfortable clothes and athletic shoes on Monday/Wednesdays/Fridays in order to participate in exercise session.

Assessment/Grading
• Daily Assignments, Labs & Journal 50%
• Tests and Quizzes 30%
• Wellness Project 20%
On Line Grading:
Grades will be posted on A-H Connect and updated several times during the tri-semester. Please check your grade if you have any questions concerning your progress. When looking at grades remember that if there is NG posted in the grade report, that particular score doesn’t count in there grade average. It is just a way for me to keep good records on items. The following grading scale applies:
A 100%-90%, B 89%-80%, C 79%-70%, D 69%-60%, F Below 60%

Anoka High School does not condone or recommend that electronic devices be brought to school. Anoka High School bears no responsibility for, nor is it obligated to investigate the theft of such devices.
Cell phones must be concealed and turned off during class time*
Making or receiving a call or text messaging may only occur before or after school, during the individual student’s assigned lunch, or during passing time. The taking of pictures or videotaping of other students or school staff is prohibited.
Phones will be confiscated if used inappropriately. The removal of a memory chip or battery from a phone in the process of being confiscated is considered grounds for disciplinary action.*The use of the application “Map My Run” will be encouraged but not required during class. This app can be downloaded for free on any i-phone or android cell phone. This app will chart route, distance and speed for our regular class walking program.
