Syllabus for Video Art – Mr. Nitzberg
Course Description:Digital film editing utilizing iMovie HD, still photos, and sound
Objectives:
1) Have students become familiar with software programs and computer functions relating to the projects being worked on, developing an advanced level of skill to integrate the various programs and tools at their disposal
2) Have students be able to compose artistically aesthetic compositions / projects utilizing the tools being worked with
3) Have students be able to develop a personal voice in the creation of their artwork
Course Materials / Supplies:
1) All materials supplied
2) Software programs utilized:
· iMovie
· Adobe Photoshop
· Microsoft PowerPoint
· Microsoft Word
Major Assignments:
1) Series of theme-based digital movies:- Formative – Preparational work for film making assignments including PowerPoints and story-boards (videos b – e above)
- Summative – finished video projects
- Final Grade – Portfolio based on Cumulative Summative Assessment Scoring of Video Projects
a) Film Effects Video – practice video
b) Non Figurative Self Portrait – mandatory
c) Objective Documentary: Societal / Current Event Topic - mandatory
d) Video Poem or
e) Fictional Narrative
f) Experimental – Open Subject (as time allows)
Final version of films to be between 3 – 5 minutes in length
3) Out of class assignments:
- View films in all categories that you will be working in. Biographical or autobiographical film will be acceptable forNon- figurative Self Portrait category.
- PowerPoint presentation following formatted outlines of viewed films will be created by students for each film viewed
Grading
- Formative – Preparational work for film making assignments including PowerPoints and story-boards (videos b – e above)
- Summative – finished video projects
- Final Grade – Portfolio based on Cumulative Summative Assessment Scoring of Video Projects
